Evaluation

These are the questions I researched:
What genre of music do you like?
What colours do you prefer?
Do you value live performance?
Do you think the celebrity aspect of a front cover is important?

Brief: my project was to produce a music magazine

Planning and Research

1. Research into similar products

I looked at Kerrang, Q magazine and Mojo magazine
· Kerrang is the worlds biggest selling rock magazine, its popular because it’s a worldwide magazine and therefore has coverage of lots of popular bands from around the world.
· Q magazine is a UK based magazine and is covers a few genres like rock and indie this broadens its audience making it Uk’s best selling music magazine.
· Mojo is a magazine aimed at people who love the classics.
My research was done on http://www.greatmagazines.co.uk
1) In what does your media product use, develop or challenge conventions of real media products?
My magazine incorporates generic conventions by using ideas from magazines such as Kerrang and Q. Ideas like quick fire interviews. These conventions clearly indicate other magazines that have influenced my work.

2) How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My magazine reinforces stereotypes of rock and roll artists through images it doesn’t stereotype women my target audience will be linked to topics my magazine.

3) What kind of media institution would distribute your media product and why?
I would get an independent company to distribute my magazine such as bowah. We would distribute by doing a website to go with the magazine along with handouts at festivals to get peoples interest.

4) Who would be your audience for your media product?
The target audience demographic for my magazine is the C1, C2 and D social class, with the age range 16-25. My magazine is aimed at both genders and is aimed at mixed race.

5) How did you attract/address your audience?
In my magazine there would be prizes such as to live the lifestyle of a rock star for a week, I did this because in my research I found that people felt the rock star stereotype was important so offering this prize was key to attract people to buy the magazine.

6) What have you learnt about the technologies from the process of constructing your product?
I used software such as Serif Photo plus and Serif Draw plus for my magazine. I found the tools easy to grasp. However I also discovered that there are better tools I could have used, such as fireworks and Photoshop.

7) Looking back at your preliminary task what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to your final product?

I have learnt a lot from my preliminary task including the key skills to using the software. The basic idea was easier to grasp the second time around. I now feel much more confident using the equipment
